Sahara Group’s commitment to “lighting up Nigeria” was lauded by a congressional delegation from the United States as they toured Egbin Power Plant.
The delegates included:

According to Senator Coons who led the delegation, “After taking a tour of the Egbin Power Plant, it is clear to see the amount of investment put in by Sahara Group over the past couple of years to improve its efficiency. This is a good partnership for the United States Power Africa and Egbin”
The tour gave the delegates the opportunity to learn about Egbin’s post-privatization milestones, challenges and future plans.
Some of the highlights of Egbin Power’s post-acquisition milestones include:
The injection of fresh 400 million USD that increased Egbin Power’s contribution to the Country’s National Grid from an average about 400 MW to over 1000MW – a feat achieved for the first time in decades after the plant was commissioned. A triple fold increase in the available energy output of the assets, clearly illustrating Sahara’s contribution to the development of Nigeria’s energy infrastructure and commitment to our vision of lighting up Nigeria. Investments in human capital culminating in the employment of 107 young engineers (deployed across Sahara Power Group entities) to drive manpower sustainability in the sector and sundry training of all cadres of staff to enhance efficiency and professionalism
Transformation of the staff living quarters, upgrades of recreational facilities and staff children schools ongoing sustainable development projects targeted at empowering residents of the communities around the power sector. The projects include health, education, youth empowerment, environmental and capacity building interventions. Huge post-acquisition investments leading to an overhaul of the analogue control systems of the plant with new state of the art digital control systems to further improve operational efficiency.
On-going expansion roadmap aimed at increasing the plant’s generating capacity. The project is on course with the initial business feasibility report in place for the building of a new power plant that would at least double the generation over the next five to seven years.
